Experience
Matt Behrens’ practice focuses on a broad range of real estate finance and development matters across the lifecycle of real estate investments, including acquisitions and dispositions, financing, joint ventures and leasing. He represents owners, lenders and project sponsors, advising on both transactional and operational issues.
Prior to joining Windels Marx, Matt practiced with a boutique real estate firm in White Plains, New York, where he represented a large Westchester County municipality in connection with the redevelopment and construction of a parking garage. That project involved the use of eminent domain, public-private development agreements, and the structuring of Brownfield Cleanup Program tax credits.
Earlier in his career, Matt served as a Law Clerk at a boutique firm in Westport, Connecticut, and as a Judicial Law Clerk at the Civilian Board of Contract Appeals in Washington, D.C. He also served as Chief of Staff for a vertically integrated real estate development firm in New York, where he managed legal and operational matters.
Matt earned his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center, where he was the Founder and President of the Federal Bar Association.
