Experience

Howard P. Lakind concentrates on commercial lending and real estate transactions. Mr. Lakind has extensive experience in complex commercial real estate acquisitions and development activities throughout the United States.

Mr. Lakind also represents borrowers, banks and other financial institutions in connection with real estate and commercial lending transactions. 

Immediately prior to joining Windels Marx, Mr. Lakind served as in-house counsel to Constellation Bank, N.A. and CoreStates Bank, N.A. (1990-1995). Mr. Lakind is a member of the Banking Law Section of the New Jersey State Bar Association and the Real Property, Probate and Trust Law and Business Law Sections of the American Bar Association.

  • Represented a real estate developer in the $85,000,000 acquisition and financing of the Gateway I Office Building and related Parking Garage located in Newark, New Jersey.
  • Represented a real estate developer in the $35,750,000 acquisition and financing of Exxon's former international headquarters site located in Florham Park, New Jersey.
  • Represented a real estate developer in the $80,250,000 acquisition and financing of an office business park in Chantilly, Virginia.
  • Represented a real estate developer in the acquisition and financing of a $51,000,000 portfolio of seven (7) office buildings located in Prince George’s County and Montgomery County, Maryland and Fairfax County, Virginia.
  • Represented a lender in a $20,000,000 loan to a real estate developer to acquire a medical office building located in West Orange, New Jersey.
  • Represented a lender in a $27,430,000 loan to a real estate developer to refinance several student housing apartment buildings located in New Castle County, Delaware.
  • Represented a lender in a $28,000,000 loan to a real estate developer to refinance a Hilton Hotel located in Fort Lee, New Jersey.
  • Represented a lender in a $17,500,000 loan to a real estate developer to refinance a residential project located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
  • Represented a lender in a $30,225,000 loan to a real estate developer to refinance a 138 unit residential development located in New Castle County, Delaware.
  • Represented a New Jersey state university in the negotiation and closing of an agreement with a developer for the design, construction and maintenance of a student housing complex on the university’s campus, containing approximately 2,000 beds and related facilities for an approximate cost of $65,000,000.
  • General real estate and corporate work for an owner/operator of a chain of over 35 Burger King franchised restaurants, including the sale of a portfolio of Burger King restaurant assets located in New Jersey, New York, Delaware, and Pennsylvania for a purchase price of over $37,00,000, and the negotiation of leases of various of those restaurants owned by affiliates of sellers to the purchaser of the restaurants.
  • Represented a real estate developer in the $35,750,000 acquisition and financing of an office building located in Florham Park, New Jersey.
  • Represented a real estate developer in the $37,050,000 acquisition and financing of a portfolio of four (4) office buildings located in Westborough and Southborough, Massachusetts.
  • Represented a real estate developer in the $33,000,000 acquisition and financing of a 320,000 square foot office building located in Morris Township, New Jersey.
