Experience

Rebecca Schmutter counsels corporations, partnerships, limited liability companies and individuals on a wide range of domestic and international tax matters. In that regard, she helps clients navigate complex income tax issues arising from sales, acquisitions, joint ventures, personal business investments and financings.

She also advises clients with respect to non-income tax matters, including New York State and City sales tax and real estate transfer tax. In addition, Rebecca has formed and dissolved New York not-for-profit corporations, and she regularly provides tax advice to not-for-profit clients.

Prior to Windels Marx, Rebecca practiced at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP (New York, NY) for 10 years and most recently was a Partner with Meltzer, Lippe, Goldstein & Breitstone, LLP (Mineola, NY).

Rebecca holds a J.D. from Columbia University Law School, where she was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar (2005-2006, 2006-2007), and a B.A., magna cum laude, from Columbia College, Columbia University.
