1954-2011

Timothy J. O'Neill was certified by the Supreme Court of New Jersey as a Civil Trial Attorney, a distinction demonstrating his experience and skill as a trial attorney. For more than 30 years, Mr. O'Neill litigated employment, land use, condemnation, construction, bankruptcy, and other commercial disputes in state and federal, trial and appellate courts.

Mr. O'Neill scored the following triumphs in trial and appellate courts:

  • a directed verdict following a jury trial against a former employee alleging disability discrimination;
  • summary judgment against a former employee in a $24.5 million race and gender discrimination case against a Fortune 200 company;
  • a no cause jury verdict in an age discrimination case in federal court;
  • a $2.3 million judgment on behalf of a commercial property owner in a condemnation action;
  • a $1.2 million jury verdict for a bank against a corporate guarantor along with a no cause verdict in the guarantor's lender liability counterclaim;
  • summary judgment against an employee alleging disability discrimination and wrongful termination;
  • the New Jersey Appellate Division exempted the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority from any affordable housing obligation in connection with Meadowlands Xanadu, a $2 billion development project in northern New Jersey;
  • the New Jersey Appellate Division reversed summary judgment allowing Stevens Institute of Technology to proceed with its defamation claims; and
  • the United State Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit denied a motion for new trial and affirmed jury verdict in favor of Dimensional Communications, Inc.

Before going into private practice, Mr. O'Neill was the head of the bankruptcy department in the New York office of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. His four year tenure with the FDIC completed nearly a decade of work with governmental entities that included the United States Department of Justice and the New Jersey Casino Control Commission.

Mr. O'Neill was a longstanding member of the New Jersey Trial Lawyers Association and the New Jersey State Bar Association. He was a founding and ongoing member of the Board of Trustees of the Princeton Academy of the Sacred Heart.
